Waiver services are Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) offered as a Medicaid Program through the Department of Human Services. Waiver services are offered to individuals with disabilities who need support. Each individual on the Waiver must be eligible for Medicaid and must also meet the requirements for their specific Waiver. The state of Iowa currently has seven HCBS Waivers. Opportunities Unlimited provides services under the following waivers:
- Brain Injury (BI) Waiver
- Intellectual Disabilities (ID) Waiver
- Child Mental Health (CMH) Waiver
- Ill and Handicapped (IH) Waiver
Different services are offered under each of these waivers. The services offered by Opportunities Unlimited include:
IMMT services were created for individuals with medical needs that require monitoring or medical intervention. Those that provide services under IMMT are specially trained to the needs of each individual.

Respite services are designed to give parents and caregivers time to enjoy other aspects of life or to complete necessary tasks with the assurance that their loved one is being cared for by highly trained and compassionate staff. Activities a child may engage in during respite care include playing in the gym, playing board games, taking a walk, going to the pool, a movie, etc. Respite care can be provided as individual respite or as group respite.
SCL services are intended to assist in daily living skills that help achieve greatest independence. These services may include skill building in areas of personal care, community, safety, communication, and self-advocacy.
